Culminating APEX Project

APEX: Where Evidence Meets Impact

APEX, which stands for Advancing Professional Practice through Evidence and eXcellence, is the culminating doctoral experience in Â鶹¹û¶³â€™s Speech-Language Pathology Doctorate program. Through APEX, students design, implement, and share applied work that advances professional practice and creates meaningful, real-world impact.

What sets Moravian’s SLPD program apart is our belief that leadership and innovation in speech-language pathology can take many forms. While traditional research is one valuable pathway, it is not the only way to create change. APEX gives students the flexibility to choose the type of project that best aligns with their clinical expertise, professional goals, and intended area of impact.

Students complete projects in one of six APEX categories:

  • Advanced Clinical Skill Development
  • Business Development Plan
  • Clinical Research
  • Knowledge Translation and Dissemination
  • Policy and Advocacy
  • Systems Change, Program Evaluation, and Quality Improvement

This individualized structure allows students to move evidence into action in ways that are practical, innovative, and responsive to the needs of clients, clinicians, organizations, and communities. APEX projects may lead to new clinical tools, improved programs and systems, advocacy efforts, business models, implementation resources, applied research, and other solutions that strengthen the profession.

Throughout the process, students are supported by faculty guidance, structured milestones, and collaboration with mentors whose expertise helps shape and strengthen each project. The result is a doctoral experience that is rigorous, flexible, and deeply connected to professional practice.

Interested in Mentoring an APEX Student?

Â鶹¹û¶³ welcomes doctorate-level speech-language pathologists who are interested in mentoring students as they complete their APEX projects. Mentors play an important role in supporting students as they refine, implement, and share work designed to make a meaningful contribution to the field.

We are seeking mentors with doctoral preparation, including PhD, EdD, AuD, SLPD, or equivalent degrees, who can provide guidance in areas aligned with students’ project goals and scope of practice.
